TikTok Trends: Bleach Dying Clothes

Hey all you cool cats and kittens! I'm sorry, I had too... But has anyone else seen a video on TikTok and thought "wow, that looks so cool and I want to do that"? I sure have! There is a trend going around right now where you take a piece of clothing and pour bleach on it to dye it with cool patterns. After seeing so many super cool videos, I texted my best friend Ava and said "we should do this!".
It seemed simple enough: take a piece of clothing and twist it up with rubber bands, then splash some bleach on it and let it sit for a couple of minutes before washing it out. We headed to target to get a few cheap clothing pieces to try it out of ourselves.
Once back home, it was time to prep the clothing. I got a pink tank top and a grey cotton dress, and as I laid them out on my floor, I began to try to twist and entwine them in a way that hopefully wouldn't look bad for a tie dye design. I did my tank top in a very traditional spiral design, and for the dress, I bunched it up into a long rope to hopefully make some cool bleached stripes down it. We tossed our garments into my tub, and used some Clorox toilet bowel cleaner containing bleach to soak the clothes with.
At first, I didn't see anything happening, so I was worried it wasn't working. However, after a few minutes, we could see the color being lifted from the spots we added bleach! It was a pretty fast process, and after no more than 10 minutes, it was time to rinse them out and throw them into the washer to get them all clean and ready to reveal.
I must say, I am SO happy with how they turned out! Check out these two cool tie dyed garments!

I must say I am hooked! Later that night, I was putting away laundry, and found a pair of jeans that still fit me, but I just don't wear them very often. I had seen videos of people doing cool things to jeans too, so I took them downstairs, and tossed them into my tub, and grabbed my bleach. I made a video to show how this process worked and how they turned out, so check it out!!
This was a super fun project, and I want to try a few more clothing pieces out just because they turn out so cool! If you try this out, I would definitely wear gloves (or ziplock bags on your hands like I did!), but it was surprisingly easy to do! If you try this out, I'd love to know what you make or how it goes for you!
Thank god for internet trends to keep us busy, right?
Happy creating!
